2007 Uganda

It was a successful day in Uganda. They began with a cultural walk in the city at 8:15am. We were joined by visiting tourists from USA and the participants grew up to 30. The walk was guided by the cultural guide Club members. We visited historical sites, cultural sites, and religious sites. They broke off at 1:00pm and later met at the Uganda Museum for the main celebrations at 4:00pm.

The chief Guest was the Hon. Minister of Tourism. they had a number of speakers including a representative from the Head of Geography Department Makerere University. In his words, the Minister of Tourism pledged to support Uganda Safari Guides association in professionalising the members through training. He emphasised the need for Discipline amongst tourist guides especially in this year When Uganda is hosting The Common Wealth Heads of Government in November. Herbert Byaruhanga gave speech were he promised the country that before the end of this 2007, the majority of tourist guides will be trained, assessed and registered.

They have already had meetings with the Association of Tour operators and have agreed that they only employ members of our association. By the end of the function the number of participants had grown up to 60 and every body enjoyed the BBQ which we had organised. This day has now been recognised and will always be celebrated in Uganda ever 21st of Feb every years.
