A Statement of Solidarity from the WFTGA

Free Virtual Participation in the WFTGA Convention 2026

In a world marked by uncertainty, conflict and growing economic challenges, the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) reaffirms its commitment to solidarity, inclusion and professional support within the global guiding community.

Tourist guides play a unique role in society. They foster dialogue, preserve cultural heritage and build bridges between people and cultures. In many parts of the world, however, guides are currently facing exceptional difficulties due to armed conflict, political instability or severe economic hardship.

As a deliberate gesture of solidarity, the WFTGA Board has decided to enable free virtual participation in the WFTGA Convention 2026 (Fukuoka, Japan) for guides belonging to selected WFTGA Member Associations.

Who this initiative is intended for

This measure applies to WFTGA Member Associations in:

Countries affected by armed conflict or severe instability, including:

  • 🇺🇦 Ukraine
  • 🇮🇱 Israel
  • 🇮🇷 Iran
  • 🇷🇺 Russia
  • 🇪🇹 Ethiopia

as well as to Member Associations classified within Tier 4 and Tier 5, including:

  • 🇦🇲 Armenia
  • 🇵🇪 Peru
  • 🇵🇭 Philippines

Our guiding principles

This initiative is extended in full political neutrality. Tourist guides are not politicians. Our profession is grounded in ethical responsibility, cultural sensitivity, mutual respect and the belief that guiding contributes to peace and understanding.

At a time when the WFTGA is actively working on the new Code of Guiding Practice, this decision underlines our shared values and our responsibility to support one another—especially in challenging circumstances.

How to participate

Eligible guides are invited to contact their respective WFTGA Member Association, which will provide further information on how to access free virtual participation in the Convention.

Where live participation may not be possible due to time zones, internet limitations or local restrictions, registered participants will be granted access to the full conference recordings, ensuring equal access to knowledge, dialogue and inspiration.

The digital possibilities of our time allow us to stay connected across borders and realities. With this initiative, the WFTGA seeks not only to support, but also to send a clear message:

our global guiding community stands together.
