Tourist Guides know that the first moments with a group set the tone for everything that follows. The heart of guiding is not information, but human connection — presence, energy, and trust. Yet too often, guides are weighed down by admin, bureaucracy, and unfair conditions that drain the very energy needed to create memorable experiences. This keynote explores how technology can support, rather than replace, guides: automating backstage tasks, protecting against cancellations, and creating fairer conditions through transparency. It also highlights the opportunity for guides to move from working in isolation to harnessing collective power through networks, building a more sustainable and respected profession. Through sharing my experience in the latest technology and a 25-year career in travel and education, I’ll try to show how guides can reclaim their spotlight, ensuring the future of guiding is both human-centred and future-ready.
