Meeting Time: 08:15 AM

Just north of Fukuoka City lies the town of Munakata. It is home to one of the most significant shrines in Shinto, Japan’s native religion, and also called “Port of the Gods”.

You’ll explore the main shrine, Munakata Taisha Shrine, a sacred site, which illustrates a maritime tradition of faith and the preservation of the sacred islands and sea over centuries.

It was declared a World Heritage Site in 2017 due to the extraordinary degree to which the religion and culture have been preserved here over thousands of years. This tour also perfectly coincides with Japan’s National Foundation Day, allowing you to witness the special event held at the shrine to celebrate.

(All Study Tours include a visit to Hakata Old Town, Fukuoka City’s historic merchant center, and the Fukuoka City Museum)

Lunch at Genkai Ryokan is included.

The day ends at the Fukuoka City Museum, the venue of that day’s networking dinner.
