Our first idea storm session will take place on Wednesday 24 July from 18.00 to 19.00  CET / Vienna time. In order to avoid repetition and considering the nature of the session, we kindly ask you to arrive on time. We will be using the WFTGA zoom package, which now automatically records the meeting and produced an AI summary.

Health Issues and Training Committee Updates

Mateusz and Viola discussed their recent health issues and the ongoing training committee meetings. Mateusz shared his experience with a stomach bug and how it's prevalent in Europe, while Viola mentioned her busy schedule and her upcoming term end. They also welcomed new participants to the training committee, including Melina and Paola. Mateusz expressed his enthusiasm for the training matters and his aim to improve as a trainer, while Viola assured him of their team's support.

WFDJ Training Division Strategy Spotlight Session

Viola, the head of the Wfdj training Division, welcomed attendees to the first strategy spotlight session. She introduced the team, including Mateusz and Demetra, and acknowledged the crucial role of the team in promoting professionalism and supporting tourist guides globally. Viola emphasized the importance of their work in establishing a universal code of ethics and providing hope to their colleagues, especially during challenging times. She also reiterated the need for continued support and collaboration to serve the profession.

WFDJ Training Strategies and CPD Sessions

Viola expressed her dissatisfaction with the previous Training Division meeting and highlighted the importance of the current online sessions for discussing Wfdj training strategies. Mateusz led a focused idea storming session on the topic of Cpd sessions, which aim to enhance training and guide skills. The team emphasized the importance of engaging various learner types and styles, with a particular focus on the value of feedback among trainers for improvement and teamwork. The group agreed on the value of feedback, with Mateusz planning to continue the discussion by reviewing additional comments.

Improving Guide Skills and CPD Sessions

The team discussed the role of guides in handling crises and the importance of continuous professional development (CPD) for both tourist guides and trainers. Tsunami suggested exploring various guiding topics and updating course content with new modules to improve techniques, including the use of technology. Maxine emphasized the need for guides to adapt to the age of Industry 4.0. Mariia proposed CPD sessions on crisis situations for tourist guiding and the work of National Trainers, while Dimitria shared the development of an online course on guided tools and highlighted the value of CPD based on specific occasions. The team agreed on the importance of CPD sessions being delivered by experts to provide valuable insights into cultural sensitivities and language usage in specific countries.

Reviving Online Tours and Enhancing Communication

The team discussed revisiting the online guided tours project, which had been paused but still had available content for further development. They agreed on the importance of in-person communication and seminars, with plans for a trainers' convention between regular conventions. Maricar proposed regional webinars, called "Campfire Rooms," to gather feedback and align with the Executive board's vision. The need for more inclusive online training for members across different continents, particularly in Latin America, Southern America, Asia, and Africa was emphasized.

Addressing Trainer Roles and Advancement

Maxine voiced her concerns about the lack of opportunities for advancement in trainer roles in the Caribbean, proposing that the Federation certify trainers at a regional level. Viola acknowledged these issues and emphasized the need for collaboration and diverse solutions, including online training. She also announced upcoming initiatives such as "Trainer Thursday" on LinkedIn and an International Trainer Training course in Cyprus. Sebastian emphasized the importance of supporting the needs of WFTGA's members and being open to new ideas. The conversation ended with a poll for additional ideas and desired topics for future meetings.

National Trainer's Meeting and Survey Results

Viola led a meeting in which she acknowledged the contributions of Sebastian, Mateusz, Jean, and Jana, the national trainer in Kazakhstan. A survey was conducted, with 25 out of 22 participants responding, but the results were not immediately shared due to processing time. Viola reminded those who hadn't received the training materials to check their spam folders. Mateusz appreciated the productive discussion and noted that he had gained a tangible outcome from the meeting. All participants expressed their gratitude and farewells, with Viola wishing everyone the best and hoping for their swift return.
