As we approach the close of 2024 and look forward to an exciting 2025, I am filled with gratitude for the immense support we have received throughout this journey. Together, we have laid the groundwork for many of the ideas we plan to bring to fruition in the coming year. I invite you to explore these concepts through our Delegates’ Forum, where we have shared an overview of our accomplishments in 2024 as the new Executive Board, as well as our vision for the future.
This path is not without challenges. We are a volunteer-driven organisation, and many of us are managing increasing professional demands alongside our responsibilities to WFTGA. However, I am confident that we will overcome these hurdles together, united by our shared purpose.
Our role as tourist guides in a rapidly changing world is more vital than ever. Amidst the rise of divisive forces, we must embrace and exemplify our role as Peace Ambassadors. I recently underscored this mission during my speech at the FEG Conference, where I elaborated on our responsibility to foster understanding and unity. You can find my full speech here.
Let us also draw inspiration from the upcoming International Tourist Guide Day, which will resonate with the UNWTO’s theme of Tourist Guides as Peace Ambassadors. This commitment to peace begins with each of us—how we interact with one another, within our communities and associations, and in the professional realm. We must continuously strive to see the best in each other, knowing that everyone is acting with the best intentions.
As we celebrate this season of joy—be it Christmas, Hanukkah, or other festivals—and as we prepare to welcome the New Year, let us reflect on the importance of inner peace. From a place of love and understanding, we can build stronger relationships and a more united WFTGA.
I shared a similar message during the ViVa meeting, as well as with our trainers during the TTT and ITTT courses, emphasising that peace is both our goal and our practice. I invite you to watch my video message on this subject:
May this season inspire us to work collaboratively, with kindness and respect, as we continue to elevate the profession of tourist guiding and its role in building bridges across cultures.
Wishing you peace, joy, and a fulfilling year ahead.
Warm regards,
Sebastian Frankenberger
President, WFTGA
