Train the Trainer (TtT)
Fourteen days that qualify active tourist guides to train tourist guides in their own geographic area of qualification.
Who is this course for?
The course is designed for active tourist guides who want to become trainers and train tourist guides in their own geographic area of tourist guide qualification. It is also relevant for existing trainers who would like to improve their training skills and gain a WFTGA qualification to train tourist guides in their own area.
The TtT course includes a guiding skills refresher and is a prerequisite for training to become an International WFTGA Trainer.
Course content includes
Practical guiding and training skills
- Refresher of guiding skills for a walk, a site and on a moving vehicle (HOT course refresher)
- Role of WFTGA and WFTGA Trainers
- The two-day Communication Seminar, including presentation of modules by trainee trainers, self and partner evaluation, video sessions and feedback
- Coaching skills
- Practical training skills: tutoring on a walk, in a museum or site, and on a coach
- Feedback and assessment skills
- Skills for facilitating interactive classroom sessions
Applied knowledge
- Approaches to and methodology of adult learning
- Standards for professional tourist guide training programmes
- Procedural steps for training
- Designing tourist guide training courses
- The power of feedback
- Organising practical assessments and written examinations
Business studies
- Business plan for a guide training programme
- Working within the WFTGA Training Division
How you qualify
Practical assessments of training and tuition skills, and written and/or oral examinations.
Depending on individual results, WFTGA issues either a Certificate of Successful Completion of the course or a Certificate of Attendance. For courses conducted at the WFTGA International Training Centres, certificates are issued jointly with the University of Cyprus or Yerevan State University respectively.
Successful participants qualify as WFTGA National Trainers.
Train the Trainer and the Trainer Conference
A Train the Trainer course is planned right before the 2nd WFTGA Trainer Conference in Bar, Montenegro, 18 to 22 March 2027.
