Guild members joined an inspiring cultural orientation at the Embassy of Japan, hosted by the Japan Information & Culture Center, in Washington DC as part of their preparation for the WFTGA Convention 2026 in Fukuoka.

On 20 October 2025, members of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington, D.C. were warmly hosted by the Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan for a special educational session led by Helen Swift, Educational Programs Coordinator. The program provided Guild membersโ€”many of whom will attend the WFTGA Convention 2026 in Fukuoka, Japanโ€”a valuable cultural orientation designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Japanese society.Topics covered included Geography, Language, Currency, Greetings, IC Cards, and Etiquette, all aimed at helping participants gain practical insights and cultural sensitivity before their visit.

Maricar Donato, WFTGA Global Brand Ambassador, shared: “Every encounter like this reminds us that guiding is more than showing placesโ€”itโ€™s about Bridging Connections of understanding. As we prepare for Fukuoka 2026, this experience with the Embassy of Japan truly brings us closer to the heart of Japanese culture.โ€

The engaging exchange reflected the WFTGA spirit of โ€œPeace Through Guidingโ€, emphasizing how professional guides connect cultures, foster respect, and promote meaningful global understanding.
