Bidding for the Convention 2028

We are excited to announce that bidding for the WFTGA Convention 2028 is now open – with a completely redesigned process. We have learned from past experiences and created a clear, transparent, and supportive bidding framework, now outlined step-by-step on our website. You can also watch the recording of our webinar introducing the new process.

The new approach brings important changes:

  • WFTGA takes the lead on the Main Convention: We will handle contracts with hotels and convention centres, price calculations, the registration system, and more.
  • Local Hosts focus on unforgettable experiences: Your role will be to design and deliver unique, memorable programmes for our participants.
  • Capacity building and sustainable impact: WFTGA will work with you through training programmes to co-create experiences, develop marketable tourism products, and integrate state-of-the-art guiding skills for long-term benefits.
  • Stronger emphasis on local context andΒ benefits: Your bid should highlight your association’s situation on the ground and the value that hosting a Convention will bring to both your organisation and the guiding profession locally – with over 350 delegates from 50 countries expected.
  • New evaluation process: Instead of a simple vote, the selection will follow an assessment-centre style evaluation, considering aspects such as your chosen theme, potential keynote speakers, and planned workshops.
  • Rotation principle: Priority will be given to continents that have not hosted the Convention for some time, ensuring global balance.

This new bidding model aims to create stronger partnerships, deliver world-class events, and leave a positive legacy for the host destination and its guiding community.
