The World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) is proud to celebrate Ruby Roy, who served as our President from 2003 to 2007. To this day, Ruby remains a valued member of our community, always offering her guidance, support, and expertise to WFTGA whenever needed.
We are especially delighted to share the wonderful news that on 27 February 2025, in Montreal, Canada, Ruby Roy was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal. This prestigious honour was presented by the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, in recognition of her lifelong dedication to volunteerism and community service.
Ruby has made remarkable contributions across various fields, from mentoring youth and empowering women to advancing education, tourism, and cultural initiatives. Her unwavering passion for service, leadership, and innovation has inspired many, both within and beyond the guiding profession.
Among her many accomplishments, Ruby remains the only certified local licensed guide and woman of colour in Quรฉbec, and she holds a unique place in WFTGAโs history as the youngest, the only Canadian, and the only woman of colour to have ever served as our President. Her leadership was instrumental in bringing the WFTGA Convention to Canadaโthe only time it has been hosted in the Americas.
For Ruby, the greatest reward of her lifelong dedication has been the friendships and global connections she has made along the way. As an organisation, we are incredibly grateful for her ongoing support and could not be prouder of this well-deserved recognition.
