Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Munich Tourist Guide Association

Munich, Germany – The World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) is proud to join the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Munich Tourist Guide Association. On this special occasion, WFTGA President Sebastian Frankenberger addressed the gathering, paying tribute to the achievements and contributions of the association and its members.

β€œIt is a great joy for me to be here with you in Munich today to celebrate your 30th anniversary,” Frankenberger said. β€œI do not feel like an official guest, but rather part of a family. Many friendships connect me with you, and every time I return to Munich, I feel this very special bond.”

President Frankenberger described the Munich Tourist Guide Association as a model organisation, not only within Germany but also for the international guiding community. Over the past three decades, the association has made remarkable contributions, including the creation of the Bavarian Tourist Guide Day, a strong culture of solidarity among members, continuous investment in professional training, and an exemplary cooperation with MΓΌnchen Tourismus. β€œThe fact that MΓΌnchen Tourismus is not only a partner but also a driving force for training and quality is truly unique,” he noted.

Reflecting on his role as WFTGA President, Frankenberger emphasised that Munich offers lessons for all: β€œNormally, when I travel, I listen to concerns, challenges, and needs. Here in Munich, it is the opposite – we can all learn from you. You demonstrate how successful association work can look: constructive, collegial, and future-oriented.”

At the same time, Frankenberger encouraged a spirit of positivity: β€œToo often, in associations around the world, the focus quickly shifts to shortcomings or criticism. Today I would like to remind us all to consciously look at the positive. You in Munich have achieved incredible things, and this deserves celebration.”

In his address, Frankenberger also placed the celebration in a broader context: β€œOn the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, we are reminded that the world is marked by crises and tensions. Associations like yours play an essential role in fostering exchange, collegiality, and cooperation. This includes engaging constructively with new or unconventional providers – whether they are called Free Tours or something else. By setting positive examples and working together, we can encourage quality and professionalism.”

He further highlighted the ongoing revision of the WFTGA’s Code of Guiding Practice: β€œToday, more than ever, tourist guides are ambassadors of peace. Our mission is to build bridges, connect cultures, and uphold a strong ethical responsibility – especially in times when populist voices are growing louder.”

Frankenberger concluded his remarks with heartfelt congratulations: β€œYour association shows us how this can be done: with openness, professionalism, sustainability, and a great deal of humanity. I warmly congratulate you on 30 years of the Munich Tourist Guide Association – and I wish that the decades ahead continue to be shaped by solidarity, inspiration, and the joy of working together.”
