Peru Wins the Bid to Host the 22nd WFTGA Convention in 2028

The World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) is delighted to announce that Peru has been selected as the host country for the 22nd WFTGA Convention in 2028.

Following inspiring and highly professional presentations, the delegates have chosen Peru as the next Convention destination. We warmly congratulate our Peruvian colleagues on their well-deserved success and look forward to working closely with them in the years ahead.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the other bidding countries — Ethiopia, Kazakhstan and Malaysia — for their outstanding efforts, dedication and the high quality of their proposals. The decision was not an easy one. We strongly encourage all bidders to continue their commitment and enthusiasm. There is 2030 and beyond, and we very much hope to see you bidding again.

What Awaits in 2028

The WFTGA Convention is far more than a gathering — it is the premier global event for professional tourist guides. In Peru, we will deliver a comprehensive programme including:

  • International training seminars and workshops led by certified WFTGA Trainers
  • Train-the-Trainer sessions to strengthen national training capacity
  • Practical field training and technical visits showcasing heritage interpretation in authentic settings
  • Knowledge exchange forums addressing sustainability, digital responsibility and professional standards
  • Networking opportunities fostering global cooperation and friendship
  • Cultural experiences highlighting Peru’s rich heritage and living traditions

All activities will reflect the principles of the WFTGA Code of Guiding Practice, promoting professional excellence, ethical conduct, cultural sensitivity, sustainability and inclusivity in alignment with the UN Tourism Global Code of Ethics and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We look forward with great anticipation to welcoming the world’s professional tourist guides to Peru in 2028 for what promises to be an inspiring, educational and unforgettable Convention.
