Reflections of a newly qualified WFTGA National Trainer

WFTGA Train the Trainer Course – Willemstad, Curaçao – supported by Curaçao Tourist Board

This past August, I had the privilege of joining the WFTGA’s Train the Trainer course in Willemstad, Curaçao, organised by the Curaçao Tourist Board. As a seasoned tourist guide, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but the experience exceeded every expectation.

Under the guidance of our gifted Lead International Trainer, Mrs. Susanne Kirchberger, we were encouraged to pause, reflect, and refine the techniques we often take for granted as experienced guides. The course challenged us to step outside our comfort zones, to adapt, and to discover new ways of sharing our knowledge with others.

What made it especially meaningful was the freedom to make the training our own, blending fresh methods with our personal styles.

For me, the biggest takeaway was realising that growth never stops. Even with years of guiding behind me; I learned new approaches that will not only enrich my tours and storytelling, but also help me inspire and train future tourist guides.

I’m honoured to be recognised as a National Trainer with the WFTGA and look forward to sharing my knowledge with passion and pride for our Dushi island, Curaçao. In Papiamentu, dushi means all things positive – sweet, wonderful, and full of life – just like our island, located in the Southern Caribbean.
