Hiroki KOJIMA works at the intersection of tourism research and tourist guiding practice. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Kyoto University and two MSc degrees from the London School of Economics, with research on European Studies and Political Science. He is pursuing a PhD at the Graduate School of Tourism, Wakayama University, where he also serves as a Visiting Junior Fellow at the Center for Tourism Research. His doctoral project, Philosophising Tourist Guiding, explores how philosophical inquiry can enrich guiding as a reflective and humane practice. He is a licensed tourist guide, trainer, and board director of the Institute for Japanese Culture Experience and Education, one of Japan’s largest guide associations. Specializing in private and small-group tours in Kyoto, he applies insights from the humanities and social sciences to create intellectually inspiring experiences. He has extensive experience guiding international visitors and provides lectures for guide license candidates and training for professional guides.
