2025 WFTGA Sabah Trainer Convention – Workshop Announcement 2

The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) give us an overarching and wide-reaching framework for ambition and action. Discover how you already embrace the SDG and how to further integrate them into your training activities.

Topic: Training Tourist Guides as facilitators of the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Facilitators: Viola Lewis (WFTGA Lead International Trainer) and Helga Sturzenegger (WFTGA International Trainer)

Description: During this interactive workshop we will briefly look at current definitions of sustainable tourism and explore and discuss how trainers of tourist guides can and must put the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into practice. The workshop is aimed at gathering and exchanging good practice between actively working tourist guide trainers in different circumstances throughout the world.

Helga Sturzenegger will bring in her case study and experience of creating sustainable, well-thought out gourmet tours and will showcase how many of the SDG are already addressed in the day-to-day work of tourist guides.

Background: In 2019 WFTGA added a compulsory module on ‘The Role of Tourist Guides towards Sustainable Tourism Development’ to all its Hands On Tourist Guide (HOT) Training Courses. This workshop aims at fostering thinking and discussion leading to up-grading of the WFTGA Code of Guiding Practice to fully reflect the SDG.

Join us for the Inaugural WFTGA Trainer Convention (hybrid) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia from 17 to 22 Feb 2025.
