The Ethiopian Tourist Guides Professionals Association Concludes its 2018E.C Fiscal Year’s Capacity-Building and setting-standard program on specialized training topics in Geosites, Geotourism & Geoparks. The event took place on July 30th, 2026 CE in Addis Ababa.
The training was initiated by the Association’s Training and Education Department and made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Executive Committee, the invaluable coordination of the Association’s long-standing supporter and regular collaborator Ato Enku Mulugeta, the generous commitment of the trainer Professor Asfawossen Asrat and the prompt response & support of the Ministry of Tourism.
The training was held at the Ministry of Tourism’s conference hall & provided by Professor Asfawossen Asrat – Advisor to the Ethiopian Geopark Initiative and a member of the UNESCO Council & officially opened by Mr. Tewodros Derbew – Strategic Advisor to the Ministry of Tourism and Mr. Ashenafi Sileshi – President of the Ethiopian Tourist Guides Professionals Association.
The training aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the principles of geosites, geotourism and geoparks, while also providing practical insights into the criteria, application process & significance of UNESCO Global Geopark designation.
At the end of the program, the Association presented Professor Asfawossen Asrat with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his generous contribution of time and expertise in delivering the training on a voluntary social responsibly basis. The Association also extended its sincere gratitude & certificate to the Ministry of Tourism for its swift response in providing the training venue and tea and coffee refreshments on short notice.
The training brought together 100 participants, primarily members of the Ethiopian Tourist Guides Professionals Association; along with invited members of the Talak Ethiopia Tour Operators Association, reflecting the shared commitment of Ethiopia’s tourism professionals to continuous learning and professional development.
The training was organized & delivered by the Ethiopian Tourist Guides Professional Association in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism.
