This session addressed crisis management for tourist guides, covering preparation before departure, immediate assessment and decision-making during an incident, medical emergencies and escalation, group separation, theft and lost property, and communication with the group and the operator following an incident.
The session opened with the distinction between an incident and a crisis, and the guide's duty of care. Participants worked through four scenarios — a medical emergency, a separated group member, a blocked route and a theft — identifying the first three actions in each. The closing discussion covered reporting to the operator and the wording of an incident note.
